Announcing our new campaign to change thousands of lives in Sierra Leone

Restoring eyesight of School Children In Sierra Leone

From the very start of our journey, Pala have been committed to changing lives in Africa through the provision of affordable eye care.

Following the success of the Chinsali Vision Centre in Zambia and others – we look to our next big project, rather fittingly, ahead of National Eyecare Day on the 6th June 2022.

The Why

There are just five qualified optometrists in Sierra Leone for a population of 7 million people.

Compare that to the UK where we have over 20,000 optometrists!

Can you imagine how different life would be without them?

The What

We’re joining forces with Vision Action to fund a new vision centre in the Northern Province of Sierra Leone.

This is desperately needed in a country that is ranked 182 out of 189 for health, education and living standards.

Restoring sight is one of the most effective ways to tackle poverty but there are financial, social and cultural barriers that need to be overcome first.

The How

Lack of awareness of the importance of diagnosing eye problems early, reliance on traditional medicine and prioritisation of male over female health all stop people from accessing services.

That’s why education is so vital. Vision Action will secure partners to provide training, education and outreach for the centre to ensure outcomes last well into the future.

Sierra Leone vision centre to change lives

We can’t do this without you! We need to sell over 5,000 pairs of sunglasses to fund and equip the new centre.

We’ll be sharing more as the project evolves but, for now, check out the Pala 2022 range and help us create the change that will positively impact the lives of thousands in Sierra Leone.

See the world better.

If you don’t need a pair of sunglasses right now, that’s okay! We’ll be here when you do. But for now, if you simply want to support this campaign you can make a direct donation by clicking here.
