Look good. Do good. Our Purpose

Look Good, Do Good

PALA : WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT

We live in an unequal world, one where the quality of our lives is often determined by the lottery of where we are born. Things that many of us take for granted may be considered as a luxury by others. Take your eyesight, for example. While many of us have easy access to sight-correcting aids, 10 per cent of the world’s population can’t access eye care and may never know a life without the disabling effects of poor vision. This disparity forms the core purpose behind Pala.

Providing spectacles to that ten per cent of people is one of the most cost-effective health interventions you can make. It enables a person to read, to write, to learn; to do something as basic as threading a needle. It creates opportunities for employment, income and dignity. It fights for social justice and is an incredibly powerful tool in the fight against poverty. It’s so simple.

PALA was founded on this straightforward notion. The heart of our brand philosophy is to help power this positive change. For every pair of sunglasses we sell, a pair of prescription glasses is provided to a person in need of them – through grants we give to vision centres, dispensaries and screening programmes – in low income countries in Africa.

Our glasses cases have a story too – they were once plastic bags, water sachets and discarded packaging. In a world where plastic has become a serious environmental problem we see this as our small contribution towards a solution. It also provides a constantly available material resource that enables our Ghanaian weavers to earn a year-round income, rather than being limited by their seasonal access to straw.

PALA believes in creating a sustainable future for the good of humanity and the planet. This belief impacts every decision we make, from the packaging we use to the organisations we partner with. We might not always get those decisions right, but we’ll always be transparent with you about why we’ve taken them. We’re on a journey, one where we’ll encounter obstacles and we’ll seek solutions and we’ll try our hardest to be the best we can.

See the world better.
